Product Introduction

The Precision 304 Stainless Steel Sheet (UNS S30400 / EN 1.4372) is an austenitic chromium-manganese-nickel alloy engineered as a cost-effective alternative to traditional 304 stainless steel. By partially replacing nickel with manganese and nitrogen, this grade maintains high tensile strength and good formability while lowering raw material costs for indoor structural, appliance, and decorative applications.

Supplied in both hot-rolled (No. 1) and cold-rolled (2B, BA, No. 4, Hairline) conditions, our plates adhere to ASTM A240 and JIS G4305 manufacturing standards. Every master coil batch undergoes optical emission spectrometry (OES) verification to ensure precise chemical composition before further processing or dispatch.

Key Features

High Mechanical Strength: Yields higher tensile and yield strength than 304 in the annealed condition, allowing engineers to specify reduced gauge thicknesses in structural components.

Cost Efficiency: Stabilizes bill-of-material (BOM) costs by reducing nickel dependency, ideal for high-volume stamping and fabrication.

Formability: Exhibits reliable work-hardening rates, supporting efficient cold rolling, bending, and deep-drawing operations.

Weldability: Compatible with standard resistance and fusion welding procedures (post-weld annealing recommended for continuous stress service).

Available Grades and Material Options

304 Grade (Standard)

Balanced austenitic composition for general structural and forming applications.

304LN / High-Nitrogen Variants

Modified composition providing enhanced yield strength and cryogenic toughness.

Low-Carbon 304 (304L)

Carbon controlled to <= 0.03% to restrict carbide precipitation during welding processes.

Applications

Commercial Kitchen Equipment: Food prep tables, catering shelves, sink bowls, and equipment framing.

Architectural & Interior Trim: Elevator cabs, escalator wall panels, column covers, and interior decorative wall cladding.

Automotive Sector: Exhaust system shielding components, interior structural stiffeners, and trim retainers.

Hardware & Appliances: Hose clamps, lock mechanisms, refrigerator panels, and stamped mounting brackets.

Application Warning: Grade 304 features lower chromium and higher manganese content than 304, yielding reduced resistance to pitting and chloride-induced corrosion. It is specified exclusively for indoor, dry, or climate-controlled environments and must not be used for marine, chemical, or outdoor architectural exposure.

FAQ

Q: Is Grade 304 suitable for outdoor installation?

A: No. Due to lower chromium and nickel levels, 304 lacks the pitting resistance required for outdoor or humid environments. Specify Grade 304 or 316 for exterior applications.

Q: What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

A: Standard stock plate sizes carry a 1 metric ton MOQ. Custom cut-to-length dimensions, precision slitting, or specialized surface treatments (such as laser-grade PVC films) require a 3 metric ton minimum per specification.

Q: What documentation is provided with each shipment?

A: Every delivery includes an EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate (MTC), reporting actual melt chemistry, mechanical testing values, surface finish grade, and dimensional tolerance compliance.

Q: How does 304 stamping behavior differ from 304?

A: Grade 304 features a higher work-hardening rate. While it performs well in deep drawing and bending, press tool pressures may require a 10% to 15% increase compared to working with 304.
