Product Introduction

304L (UNS S30908) is an austenitic heat-resistant stainless steel with lower carbon content than standard Grade 309, minimizing carbide precipitation during welding and high-temperature service. It provides continuous oxidation resistance up to 1000°C in mild cyclic conditions and maintains high strength in elevated-temperature environments. Supplied in hot-rolled or cold-rolled conditions-with extensive standard thicknesses available in stock for immediate dispatch-this grade is widely utilized in industrial furnaces, heat-treatment fixtures, and petrochemical processing equipment.

Key Features

High-Temperature Oxidation Resistance: Retards scaling and surface degradation up to 1000°C in continuous operation.

Welding Integrity: Low carbon chemistry (<= 0.08%) prevents chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding, reducing susceptibility to intergranular corrosion.

Elevated Temperature Strength: Retains mechanical load-bearing capacity and creep resistance in thermal processing environments.

Fabrication Adaptability: Standard formability and weldability using conventional industrial arc and resistance welding methods.

FAQ

Q: What is the main difference between Grade 309 and Grade 304L?

A: Both share the same baseline chromium and nickel content. Grade 304L has a maximum carbon content of 0.08%, compared to higher carbon limits in standard 309. This lower carbon level minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, making 304L the preferred choice for components subject to weld fabrication and high-temperature service.

Q: What is the maximum continuous service temperature for 304L plate?

A: 304L resists oxidation effectively up to 1000°C in continuous service. In cyclic operating conditions involving frequent heating and cooling, the maximum recommended temperature may be lower depending on the specific furnace atmosphere.

Q: Do you provide EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Reports with the shipment?

A: Yes. Every order is shipped with a comprehensive MTR detailing actual chemical analysis, mechanical property test results, heat number, and compliance with ASTM A240 specifications.

Q: Can you cut 304L plates to custom dimensions or provide edge beveling?

A: Yes. We operate CNC plasma, laser, and waterjet cutting equipment alongside mechanical edge-bevelling machines to supply finished blanks, rings, and ready-to-weld plates according to your engineering drawings.
